Iron typically manifests itself in water as a yellow or orange colour. Stains may appear on laundry or on plumbing fixtures. The water may also have a bitter taste.

Very low levels of iron can be treated through the use of a water softener. Normally, however, a greensand filter is the best treatment for moderate iron problems. At very high concentrations, iron problems are most often linked to biofouling of the well. In many cases, treating the biofouling is a far more effective way to deal with such an iron problem than attempting to remove the iron itself.

This FDA polypropylene string wound cartridge has a 5 micron dirt/rust rating with a polypropylene core. It has a maximum temperature rating of 82°C (180°F).

This dirt/rust cartridge has an absolute 1 micron rating and is manufactured with FDA approved materials only. Plasticol end caps are moulded to seal each end of the polypropylene pleats in the cartridge, with seams that are heat sealed to eliminate by-pass. This pleated cartridge has an extremely high surface area of media for a minimal initial pressure drop as well as having a high dirt loading capacity.

Constructed of 100% melt-blown high purity polypropylene (surfactant free, binder free, formaldehyde free and adhesive free), allowing for superior efficiency and longer cartridge life. This ungrooved cartridge has extremely low pressure drops when compared to spun-bond or string wound cartridges. The maximum operating temperature is <80°C (176°F).
