Ultra Violet (UV) Equipment

Aside from a well pump, the most common piece of equipment in a residential water system is an ultra violet (UV) unit.  The purpose of a UV unit is to protect you and your family from bacteria that may be present in your drinking water.

Some wells (especially shallow, dug wells) have harmful bacteria in them most of the time.  Other wells (even many deep, drilled wells) are subject to occasional bouts of bacterial contamination.  A UV unit provides a barrier to this contamination.  Even if you have a UV unit just as an insurance policy against occasional bacteria issues, it is a very worthwhile investment in safety and peace of mind.  In upcoming blog posts, we'll look at things you should know when selecting a UV unit.
